0 notes A much common slice of life in Singapore - old grandpas and grandmas walking along the streets carrying heavy bags of either recyclable drink cans or their own belongings.
They are a part of the lost generation from our hard labouring times from the 60s and 70s, left behind after giving their youth for the progress of our little country into the cosmopolitian city we are today. An ironic result, that till today, the government still operates with a welfare system that makes it so unaccessible to the pioneers of our country.
Sometimes I worry, what will happen to me when I reach the age whereby I can no longer contribute to the society I live in - will I become just like the grannies and grandpas I see on the streets today? Should I believe that when I retire, the money that I’d have given to the CPF will be rightfully accessible to me when I need it?
There appears to be no such thing as a secured future, at least for most of our working class heroes…
