A Crow In Self-Denial

“I hate to ask this, but aren’t you still a crow?”
- Messenger Crow No.007

Messenger Crow No. 6969 flew by the River of Journeys with wings swaying in frustrated flaps. A message was left undelivered, stuck in a secret place within him, the first major mishap in his life. It’s funny when he heard those stories, about how other crows having messages stuck were never found again. But only now it’s funny that it isn’t so funny anymore, and he gave a smirk to himself. What luck! Now he’s never gonna get from Life the reward he deserves for the work he did, or so he thought.

Where does he go from here, he couldn’t know. I mean.. nobody talks about this kind of thing in the crow community. Such a taboo it’d become, and they say such screw-ups spreads around like bird-flu. Heh.

And hence like all the other crows who got a message stuck inside their body, he began to stay alone. He didn’t dare to tell any crows about his ‘situation’, but the more he tries to protect himself, the further he finds himself away from the flock.

So days turn into months, and months into years. With time, not only did he find himself discriminated by other crow folks, he began to even discriminate himself. That explains the stupid thought he had that he was the only dirty black crow around the house.

Yet it’s always a crow’s instinct, that deep inside his heart, Crow No. 6969 had always wanted that reward Life has promised him. Hope always comes to those who seek, and for him, it came in the form of Crow No. 007.

Crow No. 007 was a smart & handsome crow, and we all know that, don’t we? All he needed to do was to pop a Zen question,

“I hate to ask this, but aren’t you still a crow?”

Bright like the annoying afternoon sun, Crow 6969’s eyes lit up so brightly it hurts his eyes.

An thus ends the story of Crow 6969’s misadventure of self-denial, born again into a new self filled with hopes and dreams, but not knowing that at the end of his journey with Life, a single red apple would be his reward.

I know an apple’s not even a part of a Crow’s natural diet. But hey, we don’t always get what we plan for, do we?

That’s what makes life so utterly interesting.
